Free Roof Donations help stop gentrification, preserve generational wealth and allow the elderly to age in place.  In addition to donating free roofs, Austin Roofing helps connect community members to city, county and federal programs offering free home repairs like roofing, windows, weatherization & wheelchair accessibility.

Preserving & Strengthening Communities Through Free Roofs and Community Service.

Most often the requests come through the “Free Roof” website page.  Typically it is someone nominating their mother for a free roof, due to being single and on a fixed income.  Each year Austin Roofing connects about 10 of these valued community members to free roofs and home repairs through a handful of programs, including the under advertised USDA RD, United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development grants and 1% loans!  They always get so much more than just a free roof.  Normally these homes are in need of many code and weatherization upgrades, repairs, and accessibility items like ramps and handrails.

Over the years, all of the free roof donations, save 2, have been to single women and mothers in the Austin, Texas Community.  The 2 exceptions were for an aging disabled veteran in East Austin circa 2015 & one to Habitat for Humanity in Wimberley, Texas this year, 2024.  Here is a list of free roofs donated directly by Austin Roofing and Construction:

2013:  Patricia – Shingle roof in San Antonio 90 years old, still living in her house!

2016:  Keli – Austin teacher who bought her first home but could not afford to put the roof on it that it needed.

2016:  Nina – Wife of an aging veteran in the hospital.  Alone, she could not afford to fix the roof on her trailer in Kyle, TX.  Her husband, Henry, passed in December of 2017.  Nina lived there until she passed in November of 2022.

2020:  Eva - Aged with children who moved in to care for her.  House framing was about to collapse and we installed new support beams before replacing the metal roof. At 94 years old, Eva is still living in the home that she bought in 1987!

2020:  Becky -  is a retired Austin ISD teacher, who would typically refinance her house to afford a large purchase like a new roof.  This way her house stayed paid off.

2023: Tandy -  a single mom of 2 boys in Austin ISD.  The young one plays football this year!

Community service is the heart of their core values.  For over 12 years they have hosted holiday parties at local children's homes; Helping Hand Home for Children and the Central Texas Children’s Home.  Through APIE, Austin Partners in Education, Christine started mentoring a 1st grader named Aliana in 2012 at Manchaca Elementary.  It started with games in the library where she helped her with math through games like Black Jack.  Meetings turned into lunches each week from Elementary into high school.  Aliana graduated in 2024!  They still meet for lunch.

Austin Roofing and Construction together with wonderful home repair programs by the City of Austin, Local Counties and Federal have helped us keep Texans in their homes and pass them on to their families.  To learn more about how Austin Roofing and Construction gives back to the community,

Why Your Roof Needs More Than Just a Shingle
Learn About Roof Valleys on Shingle Roofs by Austin Roofing and Construction
By Christine+Bowen October 29, 2025
When rain hits your roof, it doesn’t just slide straight down. Instead it follows the natural channels formed where two roof planes meet. Those intersections are called roof valleys, and they’re one of the most important (and most leak-prone) parts of any roofing system. A properly designed and installed valley ensures water flows off your roof quickly and efficiently.
Learn About Roof Flashings on Roofs by Austin Roofing and Construction

When it comes to protecting your home from water damage, roof flashing is one of the smallest yet most important parts of your roofing system. While shingles and underlayment do the heavy lifting against rain and wind, flashing is what keeps water from sneaking in through the cracks — especially around roof penetrations and edges.
