Our roofs take a lot of abuse from the extreme weather, especially during heavy Texas rains.
You can prepare for the season with these roof maintenance tips.
The impact of with heavy rains can be tough on your roof, most especially the chaotic Texas storms.
The rainy season marks the end of a dry spell, Whew!
While it is tough to avoid some of the effects associated with storms, you need to take some steps to prepare your roof for the impact.
Preparing yourself for Texas’ heavy rains will come with better water management, forecasting, as well insuring one of your most important investments, your home.
1. Yearly Roof Maintenance and Inspection
It is recommended to call roofing inspectors over to your home at least once a year to address minor issues and fix them before they graduate into major problems, (IE: Missing Shingle Tiles). Annual roof inspections come with many benefits and are typically FREE!
Having your roof inspected by experts, you will save you the money. We all know "Catch it fast at the beginning and it is easier to fix! :) "
Even a tiny crack and gap can collect water and lead to leaks.
Make sure to reach out to a roof inspector before the Texas storm hits you by surprise. Well-maintained roofs stand a better chance of surviving in the harsh stormy season.
2. Check Existing Roof Leaks
Do you think that a small leak on the roof cannot cause major damages? If you do, then you should know that during a storm, roof leaks tend to increase in size. Yes, now you know that there is no such thing as a “small leak.”
3. Inspect the Roof Gutters
Remove all the debris and old leaves from your gutters around your roof. Best Practice is to clean and inspect gutters in the Spring & Fall.
As the temperature rises and falls throughout the year it is possible for your gutters to loosen up and become weak.
4. Trim Tall Trees
Tree limbs fall on houses and vehicles, you know this is true. However even a branch that is just brushing on your roof can cause extensive damage over a year.

5. Replace and Repair Shingles
Shingles will mainly break or become loose when damaged. In return, water will slip under the roof. With missing shingles allow the wind to get under the shingles and lift entire sections.
To have your shingles replaced or fixed, contact a professional roofing company . Falling is dangerous, call a professional :)
6. Is Your Flashing Strong Enough?
The metallic seals where your roof meets higher areas of your home is called flashing. The main purpose of flashing is to ensure that water does not leak into the house.
A roofing inspector will also Inspect the flashing for corroded, weak or even missing parts.
7. Examine the Roof Deck
As water seeps under a shingle, or metal panel the roof deck will weaken and become porous. The roof deck is made of wood boards that the roofing materials are laid over.
If you notice the presence of watermarks on your ceiling or walls, get in touch with a roofing contractor immediately.
8. Fix or Replace Your Roof Immediately
Later is NOT better.
We personally like JFK's quote: "The time to fix the roof is while the sun is shining"
Or as we say in Texas: "The time to fix the roof is when the insurance is paying."
