- Austin Roofing and Construction has selected 2 recipients this year! Both are senior women of our community who have increased the quality of life for those around them for decades. Eva, a lovely lady, has lived on Austin’s East side in 78702 for the past 33 years! Her Alzheimer's requires her daughters to care for her and being able to stay in her home makes Eva happy. The other homeowner is Becky a former AISD teacher of 40 years! She is such fun and enjoys thriving in South Austin’s 78745.
Roof donations in past years have gone to Garrison Park, Rebuilding Together Austin, Community First! Village & numerous individual recipients.
As Austin grows it continues to attract big and bright stars to our communities, this is not new to Austin tough, we are used to being the coolest city in Texas. However, a growing Austin poses a special risk to our aging population. You know the cool people that kept Austin Weird for the rest of us? They want to stay in Austin too & aging in place maintains their quality of life. But as prices go up all around us, affording the maintenance to age in place gets harder each year.
Enter your local construction agencies & non-profits. There are way more construction non-profits than you might imagine. They assist with projects like mobility upgrades (ramps, bars, widening of doors), remodeling the home, weatherization, roofing, HVAC & plumbing. Travis County Home Repair is a great resource that does a just about everything to maintain and upgrade your home. **
Income can also be an issue in another way. Even though Social Security & Disability may not be enough to really live on it can still be too much to qualify for much needed construction assistance.
